Description of tea tree leaf water
Tea tree leaf water is a hydrosol based on tea tree oil. The botanical name of this shrub is Melaleuca Alternifolia (alternate leaves). It is native to New Caledonia and Madagascar, but the largest producer in the world today is Australia.
Tea tree leaves were known in Europe thanks to the English navigator James Cook who found them during his journey to the islands of the New Zealand archipelago. The aborigines used these leaves to make a refreshing drink that they called tea.
In addition, the natives used this shrub, and more particularly its leaves, to make poultices and treat infections. In 1922, the antiseptic and antibacterial properties of the plant were demonstrated by the Australian chemist Arthur de Raman Penfold.
