Description of glyceryl caprylate
Glyceryl caprylate is a simple ester of glycerin and caprylic acid, a fatty acid derived from coconuts. It is a fairly solid ingredient with a wax-like texture and a smooth finish.
Glyceryl caprylate usage levels vary depending on the type of product and what the formulator is trying to accomplish. When used as a wetting agent to improve texture or application, amounts between 0.3 and 1% are typically chosen. Rinse-off products such as cleansing oils can contain up to 5%. It is considered safe and non-sensitizing as used in cosmetics.
